Everyone knows that wedding dresses are traditionally white. But what does a wedding look like when the bride wears purple? It looks amazing!
Until the marriage of Queen Victoria in the mid 1800’s, brides were not inclined toward white gowns. Some wore white as a symbol of their innocence, but for the most part, wedding gowns were worn in rich, dark colors. Blue was especially popular, and it’s making a comeback today.
Pastels are also on the rise, like soft peach, buttercup yellow or pale pink. Today’s bride doesn’t have to be bound by anything other than her own heart. To assume that tradition demands a white gown is to assume that weddings began with Queen Victoria. Her influence created the passion for white, but many brides wed before her and many have wed since. Tradition belongs to each in her own way. If you choose to wear a gown of color, the tradition will be of your own making. And the result can be incredibly beautiful.
It isn’t hard to envision how reversing a wedding color scheme can create a dramatic effect. Imagine standing at the altar in a flowing deep purple gown surrounded by attendants in ivory or the palest blush rose. The image is rich and striking when the bride wears a color that makes her look stunning.
What color do you wear on other special occasions? What color brings out your eyes, compliments your hair and your skin tone? Does white do that for you? Wearing a color that makes you look amazing rather than one that is someone else’s idea of tradition can create a wedding day that goes beyond fairytale. It can create a wedding day that is truly, one hundred percent, you.
Continue your colorful theme throughout the day by adding colorful wedding favors to your reception. We can all use a little luck from time to time, which makes lavender—a symbol for luck—quite a special flower. Incorporate luck, a lovely fragrance and the beautiful lavender color with Lavender Garden Glass Gel Candles.

To personalize your bridesmaids’ bouquets, insert a different flower into each of their bouquets to make a statement. For example, if one of your bridesmaids has been sad, give her a lily of the valley to symbolize the return of happiness. To tell a friend that you admire her, insert yellow jasmine. A pansy will let your friend know that you are thinking of her.

You don’t have to import a blarney stone to have a wedding kissed with the luck of the Irish!
March, with it’s festive celebration of St. Patrick’s Day, is a grand time for a wedding. Pastels and pixie dust can make your wedding as fairytale as the Leprechauns themselves, and Irish customs can fill your day with extraordinary memories.
Ireland—the emerald isle. Just the saying the words evokes visions of lush rolling green hills, crystal waters and lyrical dancers on tiptoes. Imagine a wedding day blessed with the loveliness of an Irish spring morning. Blends of deep, velvet forest greens, mints and seafoams topped off with snowy whites and the palest of pastels will shower the day with richness. The colors of Ireland turn any wedding day décor into the kind of photogenic magic that transforms a bride into a queen.
Bouquets of Bells of Ireland and Baby’s Breath, the gentle lilt of an Irish harp, a cake sweetened with traditional Irish crème filling and toasting glasses etched with Celtic Knots are all spectacular choices for a March wedding. And don’t forget the lucky horseshoes for your guests!
Irish lore has long held that a horseshoe given to the bride and groom on the occasion of their wedding will inspire a life brimming with good luck. Delightful horseshoe wedding favors
spread the wish for life’s fortunes to every single guest. What could be more perfect?
Serve mugs of traditional mead and Irish canapés at the reception and make sure the band can play an old-fashioned Irish jig. It doesn’t matter if your guests have never before twinkled their toes to a jig, for learning is just too fun.
From Shamrocks to Claddagh rings, sentiment to inspiration, March weddings are kissed with an extra special something that just might lead to the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow.

My fiancé is not a fan of razzmatazz. The thought of donning a tuxedo, tripping about in shiny dress shoes and sipping champagne from a flute he could snap in two with very little effort filled him with dread. Oh, he agreed to all the bells and whistles—for me. But as the wedding preparations grew ever more complicated, his dread turned into gloom. He was miserable. That’s when I began to feel selfish. After all, it takes two to get married. Just when did the wedding day become solely about the bride’s wishes?
I didn’t know how to get him to embrace the ritual until Super Bowl Sunday opened my eyes. There he was, a beer in one hand and a slice of pizza in the other, relaxed and laughing with his friends, yet still remembering to give me a loving wink now and again, and that’s when the lightning bolt struck. I thought, “Why not?”
A couple of nights later I surprised him with a new plan. The wedding would still be formal, but right after the “I do’s” we would shuck our fancy duds and enjoy a kickback pizza and beer reception. We would encourage our guests to get casual as well, and no one would feel the pinch of tight shoes or the strangle of a tie.
I even told him I’d found the ideal wedding favor—a “A Slice of Love” pizza cutter.
He was astonished, and I was ecstatic. Giving up my Cinderella reception just didn’t seem to matter as I watched the love grow in his eyes. But you know what? He wouldn’t let me do it. It was more than enough for him that I had wanted to. No shadow of dread ever crossed his face again, and he even helped with wedding plans. Who knew pizza and beer could make love grow deeper?
Our reception is back to being the champagne fairytale occasion I’d dreamed of since I was a little girl, but I’m sticking with the pizza cutter favors. For us, no other favor could ever be as perfect.
You will find the perfect wedding favors and bridal shower favors for any wedding theme you choose at Creative Wedding Favors.

When my fiancé and I were tossing about wedding dates, trying to find the perfect time to walk the walk and talk the talk, I was stubborn. He’d say, “May 5th” and I’d say, “February 14th!” He’d say, “June 26th” and I’d cry, “Valentine’s Day!” This went on for a good month before he caved. I knew he would. He loves me. And I really wanted that love to be celebrated on the one day of the year that is chocked full of promise and adoration. You see, I’m not taking any chances. I don’t want to be a D-I-V-O-R-C-E statistic someday. And I figure that getting married during the one moment in time when love is literally oozing from life would just have to give me a little extra turbo-boost toward my golden anniversary.
Sure, I’ll have that good-luck sixpence tucked under my toes. And I’ve got my horseshoe (Thanks Trigger!) to hang above the doorway of my bride’s dressing room, as well as a rabbit’s foot, a tiny silver dolphin and three acorns wrapped in lace to nestle in that snug nook that my new push-up bra is sure to create. Oh, and I’ll be secreting a fat packet of salt in my bouquet. I plan to toss it over my shoulder when I hand my bouquet to my maid of honor during the ceremony. No one will notice, right?
But even with all that, I still welcome the ironclad protection of a Valentine’s Day wedding. And I couldn’t be happier that I’m getting one. My day will be filled with hearts and flowers and love.
And just to make sure the universe gets the message, I’ve chosen the perfect wedding favor – “Happily Ever After” Pyramid Boxes filled with Golden Chocolate Coins. With hundreds of “Happily Ever Afters” surrounding us, what could possible go wrong?
Well, now that I think about it—maybe I should try to get Kenny Rogers to sing “Always and Forever” just in case.
