The “I Do” Pizza Party That Almost Was

My fiancé is not a fan of razzmatazz. The thought of donning a tuxedo, tripping about in shiny dress shoes and sipping champagne from a flute he could snap in two with very little effort filled him with dread. Oh, he agreed to all the bells and whistles—for me. But as the wedding preparations grew ever more complicated, his dread turned into gloom. He was miserable. That’s when I began to feel selfish. I didn’t know how to get him to embrace the ritual until Super Bowl Sunday opened my eyes. I thought, “Why not?”
