It was about 800 A.D. when goats munching on red berries discovered what would come to be known as the coffee bean. This resulted in very happy critters frolicking from bush to bush in search of more. When the goat herder noticed the animals’ behavior, he, too, tried the fruit and was soon joining the herd’s happy dance. Caffeine-revved goats – too fun. But just hearing this legendary tale got me to thinking.
I’m having a midnight wedding, and I may need to prop up my guests with a bit of brewed libation. I know that midnight is a peculiar time to say “I Do,” but I’ve always been a night owl and I love the magic of midnight.
I believe that midnight, when one day ends and another begins, is the perfect spiritual moment to get married. It’s a time of both closure and renewal and a starry precursor to every new dawn. But those guests who are not as enamored of the moment as I am may need a little warm energy to keep them from nodding off over their slices of cherry chocolate wedding cake.
No problem. Inspired by buzzed livestock, I am now prepared. I’ve hired a professional coffee barista, rented a super multi-choice espresso machine, secured rich coffees and specialty drink fixings and stuffed a giant moon-shaped bowl with swizzle sticks. I’ll have my sleepy guests dancing like goats in no time. Okay, that didn’t come out right, but you get the picture.
And to insure that my guests will always remember my unique nuptials, there will be twinkling star placeholders and a delightful heart-shaped coffee scoop favor for everyone to take home.
Stars and fresh brewed coffees will surely make my magical midnight wedding just perfect. And if my guests can’t make it, I can always invite some coffee-craving goats.
