When is a wedding favor more than a favor? When it’s doing double duty as a decoration!

When contemplating decorations for my wedding, the one thing I knew for sure was that I wanted candles, and lots of them. The flickering of candlelight is more than just romantic, it’s transcending. Warm flutters and soft shadows take you away to somewhere mystical. Hearts open and love blooms in candlelight.

I remembered all of the wonderful votive and tealight candles I’d seen during my search for wedding favors and was struck with inspiration. My groom and I are winter enthusiasts. We love to ski from the top of a mountain blanketed in fresh, untouched snow. We love it when our cheeks turn pink and our noses red. And we love cuddling before a roaring fire at the end of the day. I wanted our wedding to be reflective of who we are, and wedding favors helped make that happen.

Instead of ordinary tapers at the altar, we chose tall tree-bark spiral stands topped with dozens of snowflake gel candles and pine sprigs with frosted rattan ties. Giant snowy white velvet bows with center clusters of beaded snowflake ornaments adorned the pews. And white rose petals fluttered about my feet as I walked down the aisle.

After the ceremony the spiral stands were transported to the reception where they made a magnificent backdrop for our wedding cake table. Our centerpieces were fresh greens nestled with flickering winter wedding cake candles. Embossed snowflake favor boxes filled with Rocky Mountain hard candies finished the table trimmings, and we gifted our guests with beautiful snowflake gel candles of their own to take home.

Wedding favors made my “winter inside” wedding all that I’d dreamed. Now, it’s off to a mountaintop honeymoon for lots of candlelit kisses.
